About the Monstera
The Swiss cheese plant earns its keep with dramatic, fenestrated leaves and a forgiving temperament. Give it room to climb and it rewards you with bigger, more split leaves each season.
Light
Bright, indirect light is the sweet spot. It tolerates medium light but produces fewer fenestrations; harsh direct sun scorches the leaves.
Watering
Water when the top 2 inches of soil are dry — usually weekly in summer, less in winter. It dislikes sitting in water, so always empty the saucer.
Propagation
Cut just below a node with an aerial root, root it in water for 4–6 weeks, then pot into a chunky aroid mix.
Common problems
Yellow leaves
Usually overwatering — let the soil dry further between waterings and check drainage.
No fenestrations
Not enough light. Move it closer to a bright window and give it support to climb.
Brown crispy edges
Low humidity or underwatering. Raise humidity and keep watering consistent.
