Peace Lily

Spathiphyllum wallisii

About the Peace Lily

The peace lily is dramatic in the best way — it wilts theatrically when thirsty and revives within hours of watering, while its white spathes brighten low-light rooms.

Light

Medium, indirect light is ideal. It flowers less in deep shade and scorches in direct sun. An east-facing room suits it well.

Watering

Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy. It will droop dramatically when dry, then recover after a drink — try not to rely on that as your schedule.

Propagation

Divide the clump at repotting, separating crowns with roots attached. It does not propagate from leaf or stem cuttings.

Common problems

Drooping leaves

Almost always thirst — water thoroughly and it should recover within hours.

Brown leaf tips

Tap-water minerals or low humidity. Use filtered water and raise humidity.

No flowers

Too little light. Move it somewhere brighter (still indirect) to encourage blooms.
